On June 20, the SusChem Stakeholder workshop “The future of research & innovation in Europe: defining technology priorities for sustainable growth” took place in Brussels, where ECP4 has been represented through some of its partners (AIMPLAS, CIDETEC, IPC and VTT).
The event was opened by Mr. Markus Steilemann, SusChem Board Member from COVESTRO and followed by Ms. Signe Ratso, Deputy Director-General for Research and Innovation, DG RTD, who outlined the Commission proposal for Horizon Europe, the next EU Research & Innovation Programme (2021 – 2027).
Specifically, Mr. Bertrand Fillon, General Director of Research at IPC, and Mr. German Cabanero, Head of Strategic Partnering at CIDETEC gave inspirational presentations for the first breakout session: “Creating the future with advanced materials: what are your priorities?” Both have shared their vision of plastics circularity and materials for batteries. Afterward, the discussion with the participants has served as an input for the next Materials Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda for Europe and also as a contribution to the possible missions in Horizon Europe.
Closely related to this, two SusChem white papers were available at the event: the future research and innovation requirements for Battery Energy Storage technologies and the technology and non-technology requirements for integrating Polymer Composites fully into the Circular Economy. Both documents are available here.
The next SusChem event will be held on the 23rd of October in Brussels.
